Proposed $256.6M White Plains School Budget On The Ballot May 16
Also on the ballot are two people vying for seats on the Board of Education.
WHITE PLAINS, NY — The 2023 budget and school board vote is May 16, and two seats are up for election on the White Plains Board of Education.
The proposed spending plan of $256.6 million is 4.8 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on new courses in English, mathematics, science and engineering, PreK expansion for 4-year-olds, encouragement of increased student participation in sports, new security and safety measures and an increase in staffing to meet the needs of the district in payroll, accounting and facilities.
The tax levy is expected to rise just 1.19 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

A budget hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 8 at the Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.
Two board seats will be up for election, each for a three-year term of office, beginning July 1. Candidates, in the order they will appear on the ballot, are incumbent Rosemarie Eller and Valerie Daniele.

Voters may register online with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, or by mail through the County Board of Elections or at the Office of the District Clerk at 914-422-2071.
Registered voters may request an application for an absentee ballot by contacting the district clerk's office at 914-422-2071.
Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 16.
