White Plains Parking Price Hikes Will Be 'Revenue Generator,' Says Larson

When public parking prices in White Plains rise later this spring—from 75-cents an hour to $1 an hour—they will be keeping pace with rates in nearby cities, not surpassing them, say officials.

The uptick will go into effect June 1, said John Larson, the city's parking commissioner, and match prices in nearby New Rochelle and Stamford, CT.

Across the Hudson, in Nyack, parking remains at 75-cents an hour.

But lawmakers in Port Chester are raising their rate to $1 an hour, from 75-cents, this year, as well.

Larson told Patch the uptick will affect all off-street public parking areas, whether garages or surface lots.

"It will be a revenue generator," he added.

White Plains' most recent parking price swell was six years ago.

The munimeters rooted in garages will update automatically and simultaneously come June, Larson said, but city workers will have to tweak some single-space meters one-by-one.
