Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams to Run for Mayor of New York City

Possibly as soon as 2021.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — As City Hall watchers have long suspected, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, he of the slam-drunk stanky legg, plans to run for mayor of New York City at some point in the not-so-distant future.

“I can confirm that he will be running for mayor at some point,” Adams’ spokesman, Stefan Ringel, told Patch in response to a report in Brooklyn Paper that Adams would be running in 2021. “However,” he said, “I don’t think a formal declaration has been made.”

Here’s what Adams reportedly said in an interview Monday with Brooklyn Paper Radio:

“In 20 years I’ll be looking back and telling you how great it was to have been the mayor of the City of New York and retire once I complete my two terms.”

Mathematically speaking, Adams could wait until 2025 to run for mayor and still achieve his dream within this timeline.

However, he also reportedly told Brooklyn Paper that a 2021 run would be ”good enough for me.”

Ringel, his spokesman, clarified in an interview with Patch: ”He’s talked about the possibility of ‘21, but no paperwork has been filed. I don’t even know that such paperwork would exist at this time.”

Two things are for sure, Ringel said.

First, Adams has no current intentions of running in 2017. On the other hand, he does intend — on no uncertain terms — to run for mayor sometime in the years that follow.

“When he announces, I promise you, everyone will know,” Ringel said.
