Charged With Raping Teen, NYPD Sergeant Reportedly Commits Suicide

Sgt. Joel Doseau was facing 39 counts of various rape and sex-abuse charges.

Disgraced NYPD Sgt. Joel Doseau was found dead at his parents’ home in Carnarsie, Brooklyn, on Thursday with a plastic bag over his head, the New York Post reports.

The Post’s sources say that “a hose attached to a nearby butane tank fed gas into the bag, asphyxiating the cop.”

The 43-year-old had been arrested two weeks earlier in the Greenpoint area on suspicion of repeatedly raping a teen girl over two summers, in 2008 and 2009, beginning when she was just 15.

Law enforcement officials said Sergeant Doseau and his accuser met online when she was 14 and living out of state, and he asked her to send him sexually explicit images. She came to visit him at the age of 14, and they began having sex in 2008 when she was 15, the police said. The relationship continued until 2010, when she was 17, the police said. She is now 23.
