City Wants To Add Snack Bar And Food Trucks To McCarren Park

The city wants an operator to turn the McCarren Park field house into a snack bar and possibly bring two food trucks to it.

WILLIAMSBURG, NY — The city wants to turn a Parks Department storage facility inside McCarren Park into a snack bar and add up to two food trucks to the spot, officials said.

Parks put out a request to find an operator this week to turn a portion of the McCarren Park Field House into a concession area that could sell food and alcohol, the agency said.

Plans also allow the selected operator to add up to two food trucks around the park at the Lorimer Street and Bedford Avenue entrance, Lorimer Street and Driggs Avenue entrance or North 12th Street and Bedford Avenue entrance, according to the request for proposals.

The 2,800-square-foot field house is currently used by Parks for operations and to store equipment with two public comfort stations on either side of the building, a spokeswoman for the agency said.

Under the proposal, Parks would only keep about 650-square-feet of space inside with the rest going towards the snack bar.

The plan does not specify what food would be served at the field house, but allows for alcohol to be sold after state approval and tables and chairs to be set up. The food trucks won't be allowed to sell booze under the plan.

Before it can turn into a food area, the field house would need repairs to the roof, ceiling, walls and upgrades to the electrical system, Parks said.

The agency did not have an estimated time on when they want to snack bar to open, but companies have until June 18 to submit applications for the project.
