'Find My iPhone' Leads Brooklyn Cops to Armed Robbery Suspect
A lesson for all aspiring iPhone thieves.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — An armed robbery suspect being chased by the NYPD in Brooklyn last week apparently forgot to turn off the iPhone he’d just stolen, according to a police account of the incident.
Two officers from the 73rd Precinct responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery at Livonia Avenue and Strauss Street in Brownsville, police say.
When they arrived, the robbery victim claimed a man with a gun had stolen his iPhone and some cash, and had then fled the area.
From the NYPD news blog:
Sergeant Donahue was able to download the “Find my iPhone” application onto her smartphone and the two officers began to follow the suspect in their police car.
Near the intersection of Dumont Avenue and Amboy Street, the officers observed a man matching the description of the robbery suspect and placed the 20-year-old man under arrest with assistance from responding officers.
Sure enough, police say they found the stolen iPhone — as well as ”a loaded Hi-Point .45 cal handgun” — in the suspect’s possession.
