WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — An 18-year-old student at Williamsburg's Progress High School for Professional Careers is suing an NYPD officer for hitting him twice with a baton after a school fight last December, NY1 reported Friday.
Cellphone video obtained by the news network — and available to view here — shows the officer striking the student, Yordy Aragonez, twice in the legs and yelling at him.

According to NY1, Aragonez said he'd been involved in a large fight with other students prior to the incident, but claimed to have been merely defending himself.
He told the station that he thought the officer was coming to help him — but instead found himself being assaulted.
The NYPD released the following statement Friday.
"On December 21, 2015, police responded to reports of multiple fights at a high school at 850 Grand Street in Brooklyn. Responding officers encountered several large fights when they arrived at the school. As officers attempted to break up the altercation, an officer used a baton. As a matter of practice, the incident is under review by the Internal Affairs Bureau. There were two criminal court summonses issued for disorderly conduct to individuals involved in the fight."
