Morgan Avenue Underpass Will Be Closed All Weekend Oct. 29-30
The underpass of the BQE will be closed all weekend as part of a half billion dollar upgrade to the Kosciuszko Bridge.
GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Drivers on the Brooklyn side of the Kosciuszko Bridge this weekend will have to find an alternate route around multiple Greenpoint road closures.
The Department of Transportation announced they will be closing the Morgan Avenue underpass from 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30. That means the area will effectively be off-limits to traffic all weekend. The Morgan Avenue underpass will be closed between eastbound and westbound Meeker Avenue, as crews remove the remaining portion of the existing Brooklyn-Queens Expressway structure.
The closure is part of the DOT's on-going $555 million overhaul of the Kosciuszko Bridge, which crosses from Greenpoint, Brooklyn into Maspeth, Queens via the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

The nearby Varick Avenue and Vandervoort Avenue underpasses also remain closed 24 hours a day as part of the construction work. The DOT said work on Varick Avenue will be extended until at least Nov. 18. The northbound lane of the Vandervoort Avenue underpass is closed at all times through the remainder of 2016.
The closures mean three of the six avenues under the BQE in Greenpoint will be closed this weekend. DOT recommends using Gardner Avenue, as shown in the map below.
