North Brooklyn: Mobilize Post-Trump to Spread Love, Not Hate in Your Community
On Dec. 15, join local human rights organizations to figure out how to support fellow Brooklynites in the wake of a hate crime spike.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Council member Stephen Levin is organizing two meetings, one for North Brooklyn and one for Downtown Brooklyn, for residents to come together in the wake of a rise in hate crimes in the city and educate themselves on how to make a positive change in their communities.
Since Donald Trump won the election, police have documented a rise in hate crimes around the city, as well as around the country. Levin's meeting is to combat the hate and organize on a local level to support each other.
"The very things that make our city great, the shared values of tolerance and inclusion, are being attacked," Levin wrote in a statement. "Those that perpetuate hate have it all wrong. Our diversity, compassion, and unity are not weaknesses—they are a source of strength. We will not compromise our ideals."

The two meetings, on Dec. 15 and 19, are a call to action for Brooklynites to make a difference on a local level while also keeping a watchful eye on national politics, according to Levin.
