North Brooklyn Thieves Still At Large After 19 Home Break-Ins, Police Say

The slippery duo has allegedly broken into 19 homes in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick and Carroll Gardens-Red Hook in the past 2 months.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The two men suspected of getting away with 17 home break-ins throughout February and March — almost all of them in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, plus one on the Carroll Gardens-Red Hook border and one in Bushwick — broke into two more neighborhood homes on March 22, the NYPD said Wednesday.

Their alleged list of targets has now grown to a staggering 19 homes in Brooklyn.

Below you'll find details on the two latest break-ins tied to the pair, as relayed by the NYPD. The first was in East Williamsburg; the second, in Greenpoint.

  • It was reported to police that on Thursday, March 22, 2016, at approximately 2 a.m., suspects entered a residence through the front door in the vicinity of Skillman Avenue and Manhattan Avenue and removed $800, credit cards and other miscellaneous items belonging to a 27-year-old male.
  • It was reported to police that on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at approximately 2:10 a.m., suspects entered a residence through the front door in the vicinity of Norman Avenue and N. Henry Street and removed $50, credit card, metro card and electronics belonging to a 29-year-old male.

As previously reported, detectives said the slippery thieves were "unable to remove any property" from a house they entered at Jackson Avenue and Manhattan Avenue later that night, around 3:40 a.m.

To date, the suspects have stolen more than $1,200 in cash and a hefty stash of other goods — including a car, jewelry, debit cards and electronics — from the homes they've broken into, according to police.

Most of the duo's alleged break-ins have occurred in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. However, police said the following two incidents occurred in Bushwick and Carroll Gardens, respectively. (Again, as relayed by the NYPD.)

  • It was reported to police that on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at approximately 2:20 a.m., suspects entered a residence through the front door in the vicinity of Stanhope Street and Irving Avenue and removed a credit card, keys, and miscellaneous credit cards belonging to a 33-year-old female.
  • It was reported to police that on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at approximately 4 a.m., suspects entered a residence through the front door in the vicinity of Court Street and West 9th Street and removed credit cards, wallet, watch and a metro card belonging to a 48-year-old male.

On Wednesday, the NYPD released new photos of the suspects (included above).

Police said the first suspect is a black man last seen wearing a "grey hooded sweatshirt with a red zipper, black sweatpants, black sneakers, gray knit hat and a black Northface backpack."

The second suspect, police said, is a black man last seen wearing "a light grey Nike hooded sweatshirt with a black zipper, light grey sweatpants, black sneakers, light grey knit hat, gray backpack with red or pink section on the bottom."

The alleged burglaries described above took place in the NYPD's 94th precinct, which covers most of Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Police statistics show that major crimes within the precinct are up about 7.5 percent through March 20, compared to the same time period last year. Burglaries, however, are down about 8 percent.
