Video: Cackling Williamsburg Hipsters Run Off With Church's Sacred Jesus Statue
Cops just the clearest footage yet of the now-infamous trio who stole a Sacred Heart statue from a local church back in May.
WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Have you seen these sinners?
North Brooklyn cops are still looking for the trio responsible for the early May heist of a statue of Jesus from outside the Saints Peter and Paul Rectory on South 3rd Street — and on Wednesday, they released the clearest footage yet of the three suspects.
In the surveillance video, two young women and a young man can be seen giggling uncontrollably as they swipe the statue from its pedestal and run away down South 3rd. The statue can be seen lodged under one girl's elbow.

A week after this stunt was caught on tape, the church's beloved statue was found stuffed in a trash can just a block away.
The Sacred Heart was donated to the rectory in 2012 by a New Jersey couple, Kathleen and George Damarel, after a previous one was also stolen.
Back in May, rectory spokeswoman Waleska Soto told Patch that the youngsters who took the statue may have acted in "a moment of ignorance." She said that if they would "ring the bell and come say I'm sorry personally, that would be awesome."

After it was found, Carolyn Erstad, a spokeswoman for the Diocese of Brooklyn, said the statue had sustained some minor damage, and was being restored by D'Ambrosio Ecclesiastical Art Studios. After the reconstruction work was done, the Sacred Heart would be placed safely inside the church, Erstad said.
Soto said D'Ambrosio had donated yet another statue that would be placed outside the building.
