Bangladeshi Street Fair to Celebrate Kensington Businesses This Sunday

The 11th annual Brooklyn Street Fair will celebrate Kensington businesses, including many run by Bangladeshi-Americans.

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — The 11th annual Brooklyn Street Fair will take place this Sunday in Kensington, a showcase for numerous neighborhood businesses, including many run by Bangladeshi-Americans.

The event will run from 12 p.m to 7 p.m. on McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue and Avenue C.

The event is being put on by the Church McDonald Bangladeshi Business Association, Inc., which was founded in 2005.

Mohammad Mahab, who is the organization's Member Secretary, said that about 100 businesses will participate, selling a wide array of goods, including food, clothing, jewelry and perfume.

South Asian cultural and musical performances are scheduled, Mahab said. Medical providers will also be on hand to consult with visitors.

Mahab also heads a Bangladeshi social services organization called Kids' PDD Tacklers, which is focused on the needs of children with developmental challenges, including autism. The group will also be at the festival, he said, and will offer an autism awareness presentation starting at about 1 p.m.

The Brooklyn Street Fair is free of charge.
