Brooklyn Cops Release Chilling Video of Sex Attack Near Prospect Park
The video shows an unknown man trying to rape a 34-year-old woman in Windsor Terrace, police say.
Windsor Terrace, BROOKLYN — Local police released graphic and chilling surveillance footage early Monday morning of an attempted rape near Prospect Park the night before.
The sex attack took place outside 586 16th St. — near Prospect Park West, in a relatively safe and peaceful corner of the neighborhood — around 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

A 34-year-old woman was walking down 16th Street, police said in a news release, "when an unknown individual approached her from behind, grabbed her and proceeded lifting her dress and pulling at her underwear."
"He then knocked the victim to the ground," police said, "and struck her numerous times about the body attempting to sexually assault her. The victim kicked at the subject until he became frustrated and fled on 16th Street."

The sex-assault victim declined to receive medical care, according to the NYPD.
Cops believe the attacker is a white man in his 20s with curly black hair, standing around 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds. "He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt and slacks," police said.

A spree of attempted rapes near Prospect Park earlier this spring set neighbors on edge.
Somewhat alarmingly, police statistics show rapes have doubled in the 72nd Precinct — covering Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park and Green-Wood — in the first half of 2016, compared to the first half of 2015. As of June 19, there had been 12 rapes in the area so far this year, compared to six in the same time period last year.
