Brooklyn Motorcyclist Killed in Prospect Park Crash

Dexter Walters, 29, had attempted to pass a van heading west on Parkside Avenue, police say.

A young man was fatally thrown from his motorcycle early Saturday morning around 1:15 a.m. as he attempted to pass a van driving through Prospect Park near Windsor Terrace, according to the NYPD.

“A preliminary investigation determined that the male was riding a Yamaha motorcycle west bound on Parkside Avenue, in the vicinity of Park Circle, when he attempted to ride in between a van that was also driving west bound on Parkside Avenue and parked vehicles,” police said in a statement. “While attempting to do so, the motorcycle struck several parked cars and the moving van. As a result, the motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle.”

When first responders arrived to the scene of the crash, they found the motorcyclist, 29-year-old Dexter Walters, ”unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway,” police said.

Walters was pronounced dead soon after at Kings County Hospital in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.

“The driver of the van stayed on the scene,” police said, “and the investigation is ongoing by the New York City Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad.”
