A family on the Upper East Side will give the embattled Chihuahua a new chance at life.

Despite his hardships, Chico Suave will live to love again.

, when he was still a homeless pet whose life was on the line after a run-in with an oncoming car left him with a broken pelvis.

Windsor Terrace resident Laurie Trombley, who had the misfortune of witnessing Chico's accident as she tried to befriend him, took it upon herself to find the poor pooch a new home—and she's succeeded.

Though Trombley did manage to track down Chico's original owners, they told her that they intended to give the dog away anyway, and simply assumed that Chico's disappearance meant he'd wandered straight into the arms of a new family to love him.

Trombley told them that this was not exactly the case.

"When I explained that he was hit by a car and that I had worked really hard to have him taken care of, they basically said 'thank you' and told me I should keep him," she told Patch via email.

While Trombley couldn't keep Chico herself, she did manage to find him a new home on the Upper East Side. Though saying goodbye was hard for Trombley, she said she's confident Chico's new family will take excellent care of him.

Trombley also said she's extremely grateful to everyone who helped chip in to pay for Chico's medical bills, which Trombley initially shouldered alone.

"I am so completely blown away, touched and eternally grateful to all the wonderful, compassionate people who did reach out and contribute," she said.
"It really means a lot to have this kind of outpouring from the community...as it restores my faith in people and completely eased the burden of covering the veterinary bills all on my own."

Trombley also wants fans of Chico to know that his pelvis is recovering, and that he now able to walk on his own, albeit with lots of crate rest.
