Don't Want a Walgreens? Sign the Petition

Leonora Stein has started a petition to keep Walgreens out of Windsor Terrace.

If you happened to be at , you know that many Windsor Terrace residents really, really don't want a Walgreens coming to the space .

Babbo's Books owner Leonora Stein is doing something about it.

A petition posted to the website Change.org on Friday outlines all the reasons the drug store mega-chain—set to open in March of next year—could potentially harm the integrity of the neighborhood, including lowering property values, threatening local independently-owned drugstores and failing to employ even half of the 50 workers who will lose their jobs once Key Food shutters on June 30.

Stein said that in addition to the online petition, she's also been collecting signatures outside of Key Food, and has so far amassed roughly 460 signatures online and nearly 250 on paper.

She told Patch she hopes to collect a total of 1,000 signatures by the end of the week, and will send the physical petition to Walgreens once the tally reaches 5,000.

In addition to the petition, a website has also been started to offer residents information on Walgreens' status.

Stein said she hopes to enlist more volunteers to help petition door-to-door and outside of Key Food over the coming weeks (anyone interested can contact her at Babbo's Books at 718-788-3475 or emailing her at mostconvenent@yahoo.com).

Petitions are also available at the book store, as well as Ballard Pharmacy and Oak Hill Pharmacy.
