
We admit we get a little peevish about holiday decorations that have overstayed their welcome. (Despite our ribbing, some Prospect Park West businesses have yet to pack up their holiday window displays for the year.)
But as much as we disdain the stray reindeer or wreath, there's something especially disturbing about a forgotten nativity scene. We snapped this shot at an undisclosed location on E. 3rd St. Let's take a closer look.
Exposure to the elements has left Mary and Joseph with a light patina of filth, giving them a (probably accurate) air of world-weariness. Joseph's once bright frock is now flecked with mud, and the color has drained from Mary's face. This is understandable. They had a rough night.

As for baby Jesus? He may have been fresh-faced and regal back in December, but now, the plastic messiah has the bleary countenance of a grizzled alcoholic, the emotion long since worn from his dead painted eyes.
