Police to Motorcycle Owners: Get a Garage

A string of eight motorcycle thefts since February has cops concerned for the chopper-owning public.

If you own a motorcycle in Windsor Terrace, you should probably also own a garage.

A string of eight motorcycle thefts in the 72nd Precinct since February—the most recent of which took place in Windsor Terrace—has prompted warnings from police: If you've got a hog, you'd do well to keep it behind closed doors.

According to police, each of the stolen motorcycles was left outside for several hours, either overnight or while its owners were at work. Some were fastened to signs or light posts with U-locks; others were simply parked along the curb.

"Sometimes, you'll get four guys going up to [a motorcycle] that's just parked on the street," a community affairs officer for the precinct told Patch. "They'll stick 2 by 4's in the wheels and just carry it away."
