Straphangers Rejoice at Restored F/G Service

Southbound F and G trains are once again stopping at Windsor Terrace's two subway stations, and not a moment too soon.

It's back: As of 5 a.m. Monday, service was officially restored to the Coney Island-bound 15th St.-Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Parkway subway stations.

True, two stops might not seem like a lot, but after five months of being forced to backtrack from Church Avenue, Windsor Terrace residents living off the two skipped stations are more than pleased about their newly truncated commutes.

"It's wonderful having it back," said Jim Ferraiuolo, a musician who lives on 15th Street and travels regularly across the city for work. "It was really annoying. It took me 20 minutes out of my way."

Brad Bates, a copywriter for an ad agency in Manhattan, agreed that it was high time that service return to the stations.

"It's just kind of a relief," he said.

But not everyone opted to double back to Windsor Terrace from Church Avenue. Estevan Garcia, a resident of 16th Street, said he'd taken to walking from the 7th Avenue station instead, a journey that took him roughly 20 minutes.

As a student in the public health program at CUNY, Tuesday evening was the first time since January that Garcia would skip his now ritual evening walk home.

Asked whether he would miss the chance to clear his thoughts with a pleasant twilight stroll, Garcia paused.

"You know, I thought about it today," he said. "But...maybe not. No."
