Vote for Participatory Budgeting Projects at Councilman Lander’s Office

The early voting process starts Tuesday, April 2 through April 4 at 456 Fifth Ave, 3rd Floor from
7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

 

It’s that time again—the Participatory Budgeting process starts tomorrow!

This year, Councilman Brad Lander’s constituents, Windsor Terrace and Kensington residents in District 39, came up with 15 different projects to improve the Windsor Terrace and Kensington (out of 24 total within the 39th District). Now it’s time to see which projects will get your vote and be funded with $1 million Lander has set aside.

On Tuesday, Councilman Brad Lander will hold his Participatory Budgeting vote at his office in Park Slope, 456 Fifth Avenue from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. A total of 12 projects will appear on the ballot, and it's up to residents to vote for the ones they want to see become a reality.

Come and make your voice heard on Tuesday. But if you cannot make it until after Thursday, April 4 voting is being held until April 7th at various locations throughout the district. Click here to see the other locations.

Voters can pick up to five projects they want to see funded, and once the results are in Lander will fund as many as he can with the $1 million set aside for them.

Below are all of the projects that will impact the Park Slope and District 39. For the full list of projects and videos, click here.

Education

Safe Auditorium Upgrade for Performing Arts PS 131: Safety upgrades in auditorium for high-needs Performing Arts School. Broken chairs & dangerous stage must be replaced. Cost: $100,000.

PS 179: Technology upgrade for underserved school: 27 SmartBoards for high-needs school to aid learning for English Language Learners, Special Education and Gifted students. Cost: $115,000.

PS 230: Help Kids Connect & Learn With Technology: Install 34 Smartboards w/supporting MacBooks in high-needs, diverse (25+ home languages) school serving 1,300 students. Cost: $180,000.

Environment

Equipment for Community Compost Program: Truck & shredder to enhance composting project funded last year, processing household/school food scraps & leaves. Cost: $ 65,000.

Public Safety & Public Health

Security Cameras to Enhance Community Safety: Install 4, highly-visible security cameras in each of the District's four police precincts, especially near Prospect Park. Cost: $200,000.

Ocean Parkway Pedestrian Safety Improvements: Improvements to the streets, crosswalks, curbs, and signage around Yeshiva Torah Temimah School on Ocean Parkway. Cost: $300,000.

Church Ave Traffic & Pedestrian Safety Improvements: Extend sidewalks and reduce crossing distances on Church Ave at Coney Island Ave and McDonald Ave intersections. Cost: $300,000.

Transit

Bus Clocks at 10-20 Bus Stops Across District: Where is the next bus? Electronic signs at your stop tell you! DOT will install 10-20 displays throughout the district. Cost: $75,000.

Streets

Kensington Triangle Park Improvements: Vibrant green space for residents at Church Ave & 35th St, extending sidewalk, and adding park bench, planters and mosaic. Cost: $330,000.

Culture and Community Facilities

Groundswell Community Mural Project Media Upgrade: Media capable computers & printers for organization that brings communities together to create murals for social change. Cost: $50,000.

Projector for Celebrate Brooklyn & BRIC Art Center: High-powered projector for large scale free public events at Celebrate Brooklyn and the new BRIC Art Center. Cost: $ 40,000.

Carroll Gardens/Windsor Terrace Library Computers: 29 new adult & preschool computers at these branches to support community needs for internet access & computer literacy. Cost: $75,000.

Parks and Recreation

Install New Fitness Equipment Workout Stations: Expand and install new body weight based fitness equipment stations at the Prospect Park Southwest workout zone. Cost: $60,000.

Additional Benches for Prospect Park: Provide additional park benches at selected sites along the interior of the park, mainly along ball field path. Cost: $40,000.

Sustainable Running Surface Pilot on Prospect Park Drive: Replace 1/8-1/4 mile of pedestrian lane with softer, porous surface, improving running experience & stormwater management. Cost: $250,000.

  • Beth Jacob Day Care, 1371 46th Street (at 14th Avenue)
  • PS 230 Lower School, 425 McDonald Ave (between Church Ave & Albemarle Rd)
  • Park Slope Armory YMCA, 361 15th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenue)
  • Carroll Park House, Carroll Street and Smith Street (in Carroll Park)
