1 Dead In Orange County Fire Tuesday

MOUNT HOPE, NY — One person died in an Orange County fire early Tuesday morning.

The New York State Police said, shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, troopers responded to a fire at 2 Robbins Rd. in the town of Mount Hope.

Authorities said the fire was quickly contained by local fire departments, but during a search of the residence, one of the tenants was found dead in her apartment.

She was identified as Shaun L. Schiffinger, 56, of Mount Hope.

No other injuries were reported, police sad.

The origin of the fire is still under investigation.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Bullville, Silverlake, Pocatello and Mechanics fire departments, the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office.
