6 Local Libraries Get Funding Windfall For Capital Projects
Libraries in Somers, Shrub Oak, Patterson, Chappaqua, North Salem and Montrose will share nearly $655K set aside by lawmakers.

WESTCHESTER/PUTNAM COUNTIES — Local libraries are getting a boost, thanks in part to a local lawmaker.
NYS Senator Pete Harckham announced last week that six local libraries in the 40th Senate District will receive a total of $654,480 in state funding for several different capital projects, including improving audiovisual equipment, creating new service areas and upgrading electrical and security systems.
The funds are from $34 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects approved in the 2024-2025 New York State Budget.

"It is important that we support them by providing funding for capital projects to foster inclusive environments and support them in serving our communities. Libraries are more than just books; investments are needed in facilities and equipment."
The libraries that will share the funding are:

New York's public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. A recent survey showed a documented need for public library construction and renovation projects totaling more than $1.75 billion. Over half of the 1,000+ public library buildings in communities across New York are over 60 years old, with another third more than three decades old.
