After Vehicle Overturns In Crash, Police Find Driver's Firearm Nearby

YORKTOWN, NY — A car crash that flipped a vehicle also revealed an illegally possessed gun, according to police.
The Yorktown Police Department says that a 73-year-old Cortlandt Manor resident was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon weeks after the crash.
On August 2, officers responded to the area of Strawberry Road after receiving a report of a crash with an overturned vehicle.

During the accident investigation, a firearm was found near the overturned vehicle. Police say that at the time of the accident, Gregory Candredi did not have an up-to-date pistol permit.
He was taken to the hospital for injuries he received during the accident.

On September 19, around 11:48 a.m., Candredi turned himself in at Yorktown Police Department headquarters, and was arrested. After processing, he was issued an appearance ticket and released on his own recognizance.
Candredi is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on October 10.
