The purpose of the market is two-fold: first it will support and donate to local charities. The fire department that owns the field is run by donation, so they will benefit by the rental fee paid by the market.
In addition, every Saturday, a different area charity will be invited to be the Charitable Organization of the Week (COW). Each COW will be given free use of the community booth to distribute literature about their organization, promote fundraisers and increase awareness of their cause. They will also receive a percentage of the vendor fees for that day, donated by Maize. The Harrison Apar Foundation, founded by local residents Bruce and Elyse Apar, will be the COW on opening day.

Other proceeds will be earmarked to fund projects such as salad bars in school cafeterias, field trips to area farms, or creating school gardens. We support farmers and local producers by offering them a place to sell their goods while keeping their expense at a minimum.
The second purpose is to unite and educate the community on the benefits of local, seasonal eating, and promote the agricultural history of the region. Children are encouraged to visit the market, meet the farmers, taste the different foods for sale, and participate in the many activities planned for the season. Early response to the market has been very encouraging, with 10 vendors already on board.
Applications are still being accepted. Please email info@maizemarketmanagement.com.
Nominations for Charitable Organization of the Week are also being accepted. If you would like to placed in consideration to be a COW, please email karen@maizemarketmanagement.com
