Cooler Temps, Sunshine In Hudson Valley Forecast

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Cooler temperatures are in the forecast through the weekend with only one possibility of precipitation getting in the way of mostly sunny skies.

A cold front will continue moving through the area Friday afternoon, allowing high pressure to build through Saturday.

The National Weather Service said temps will dip overnight Friday in northern Westchester to around 24 degrees.

It won’t get too much warmer on Saturday, with the high almost reaching 40. The upside is there will be mostly sunny skies.

There will be a chance of rain throughout the mid- to lower Hudson Valley on Sunday afternoon becoming almost a certainty Sunday night — probably the worst timing for traveling back from Thanksgiving celebrations. The rain could bring up to three-quarters of an inch of precipitation.

The skies will clear out for the beginning of the work week while temperatures will hover around 40 during the day and the mid- to upper 20s at night.

Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service through the weekend for Yorktown and northern Westchester:

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Northwest wind around 11 mph.
• Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light after midnight.
• Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Light and variable wind.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Calm wind.
• Sunday: A 20 percent chance of rain after 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 46. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
• Sunday Night: Rain after 7pm. Steady temperature around 41. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible.
• Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49.
• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28.
