Cuomo Vetoed Money Sen. Ball Already Presented to Local Organizations

Gov. Cuomo vetoed 122 items within the state budget, including funding for Teatown and American Legion Post 274 projects to which Sen. Ball has already given checks.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo vetoed more than 100 budget items within the state budget last week. Funding for Teatown Lake Reservation's Eagle Fest and for improvements to the in Peekskill were included in Cuomos veto.

But, Sen. Greg Ball has already printed out oversized checks, and held press conferences, to with $20,000 and the American Legion

Ball's office says the money was from old grants and was intended to be redirected to these projects, but Cuomo considered them new line items that he would not approve.

"The funds were secured and approved in previous budgets and we were guaranteed on their status," Ball said when asked if he knew there was a chance the funding could be vetoed. "These vetoes were unfortunate and misdirected, but will not prevent us from delivering for these organizations. It will just take a little longer."

The organizations will still get the funding Ball promised, he said, but it will take longer. When asked where the money will come from, Ball responded:

"In six years I have delivered hundreds of grants from various sources, and we have many options. We are certain that we can and will deliver for these groups."
