Q&A on Open Government with Guest Speaker Robert Freeman

On July 21, Assemblyman George Latimer will hold a “Q&A on Open Government” event at the Weaver Street Firehouse in Larchmont. The Executive Director of the NYS Committee on Open Government, Bob Freeman, who will discuss Freedom of Information (FOIL) and Open Meetings laws, will join Assemblyman Latimer.

The NYS Committee on Open Government is a unit housed in the Department of State that oversees and advises the government, the public and news media on Freedom of Information, Open Meetings and Personal Privacy Laws. The committee also offers guidance in response to phone inquiries, prepares written legal advisory opinions and provides training to government and other interested groups.

“I’m happy that Bob could lend his expertise on open government to arm our local residents with even more knowledgeof how to get involved and stay informed," Latimer said. "I have always made it a priority to be as accountable and transparent as possible not because that’s what this community wants but because it’s what everytaxpayer deserves. I hope this event can be useful and that the information will be utilized in the future.”

Both Latimer and Freeman will take questions related to any other open government issue during the event as well as prior to the event via email.

“Q&A on Open Government” will be on July 21, at the Weaver Street Firehouse located at 205 Weaver Street, Larchmont, NY, 10538 from 7-9 p.m.
