The Yorktown Congress of Teachers, in collaboration with the Yorktown Central School District administration, is holding a food drive throughout all five schools on Tuesday, November 9.
Everyone in the district is invited to bring non-perishable food items packaged in paper, plastic or cans (no glass) to the lobby of any school. All food will be donated to nearly 100 Yorktown families through Yorktown Community Help, Inc.
"We are pleased to support Yorktown Community Help in providing food for families living in the town of Yorktown, and encourage students, families, faculty and all Yorktown school employees to pitch in," said Sean Kennedy, President of the Yorktown Congress of Teachers. " We also support donations of nearly $3,000 each to Yorktown' s Support Connection and to the Maria Ferrari Children' s Hospital each year, through ' dress down days' and other efforts."

For fifty years, Yorktown Community Help (YCH) has been run by volunteers to provide food to individuals and families who are referred by social workers. The food pantry is located in the Yorktown Community Center on Commerce Street and is open on the third Wednesday of each month and during three holidays.
There is a thrift shop in the building where people can donate good quality clothing and household items during the week on Mondays and Wednesdays. All proceeds help pay for food that YCH distributes. For more information, please call 962-1144.
