Flash Flood Warning Issued For Northern Westchester

The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2.5 inches per hour, the National Weather Service said.

NORTHERN WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — A flash flood warning was issued for northern Westchester County.

The National Weather Service said the warning is in effect until 1:30 p.m. Friday.

At 10:18 a.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms that were producing heavy rain across northern Westchester.

Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.

The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2.5 inches in one hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

The impact could include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

The weather service said to turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
