'Hammer Tacker' Stapler Attack Leaves Victim Injured: Police

The assault led to several staples to be embedded in the victim's foot, causing injury and "substantial" pain, according to Yorktown police.

YORKTOWN, NY — A bizarre assault with an unusual weapon left one person injured and one man under arrest, according to police.

The Yorktown Police Department says that a 49-year-old man from Newark, New Jersey was arrested and charged for felony second-degree assault.

On Thursday, several officers responded to an Underhill Avenue address after receiving a report of a possible assault.

After an investigation, police allege that Vicente Madeira de Miranda intentionally hit a person with a "hammer tacker" type of stapler, leading to several staples to be embedded in the victim's foot, causing injury and "substantial" pain.

Madeira de Miranda was arrested at the scene and taken to Yorktown police headquarters for arrest processing. He was arraigned and was served a temporary order of protection protecting the victim.

Madeira de Miranda was then released on his own recognizance, and is scheduled to return to the Yorktown Justice Court on June 5.
