Heat Advisories In Effect Through Weekend For Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — It's going to get hotter before it gets … well, not as hot, but still hot.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the lower Hudson Valley — Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties — which is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday.

The heat index for the lower Hudson Valley is forecast to be in the middle 90s to lower 100s.

Take comfort in the fact that the weather service said Friday will be coolest of five-day stretch of hot and humid conditions, with heat and humidity making it feel only in the lower 90s.

In Westchester and Rockland counties, there is also an ozone air quality alert from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday.

For the mid-Hudson Valley — Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties — the heat advisory will go into effect noon Saturday and will expire at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Here is the forecast through the weekend for northern Westchester from the weather service:

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. West wind 5 to 7 mph.
• Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Light and variable wind.
• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 94. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Light southwest wind.
• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74.
