Hudson Valley Forecast: When Will Rain, Winds End?

Wind gusts could play havoc with outdoor decorations, and power outages are possible.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — As forecast, rain has overspread the Hudson Valley Wednesday.

The meteorologists at Hudson Valley Weather are calling anywhere from 0.5 to 0.9 inches of rain for most of the region. Higher amounts of 1 to 2 inches could fall on higher terrain.

Precipitation should begin moving out of the area — from west to east — between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Winds, however, will be the real problem throughout the valley, with a wind advisory in effect for Dutchess and Ulster counties until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Other areas will be breezy with wind gusts. For southern Westchester, for example, there will be southerly winds of 16 to 22 mph during the day Wednesday, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Then, in the evening, winds will come from the west at 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

The evening is when the wind chills will kick in, the National Weather Service said. While the low temperature in southern Westchester will be around 31, the wind chill could make it feel as if it were 25 degrees.
