Indian Point's Unit 3 Back in Service

Editor's note: The following statement was sent by Entergy, the operators of the Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan. 

Buchanan — Control room operators returned the Indian Point unit 3 nuclear power plant to service Wednesday afternoon after the plant safely shut down on Monday evening following the failure of a controller that regulates the flow of water into one of the plant’s four steam generators. 

The controller has been replaced. 

Unit 3 had been online for 159 continuous days prior to the shutdown.

Unit 2 was unaffected by the shutdown and has been online for 189 continuous days. 

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, businesses and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
