Memorial Day Observance, Fun and Outdoor Activities
Start off your day with the Yorktown Memorial Day parade, then proceed to the F.D.R. Park for some grilling.
If you are looking for something to do on Memorial Day that does not include driving on traffic-filled roads to the beach, there is plenty to do right here in town.
Catch a Parade
What a better way to start off Memorial Day than to attend the Yorktown Memorial Day Parade? The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Town Hall, then travels east on Underhill Avenue to Commerce Street, and finishes on Veterans Road. The parade is expected to last an hour.

The park's spacious picnic area can accommodate hundreds of people. It can get busy, so plan ahead and either reserve a picnic area or look for an available grilling area early. Bring your grilling materials, fun company and your appetite.
Many picnic areas have volleyball nets, softball and soccer fields, so you can stay active and entertained. A short distance from the picnic areas, there is a nine or 18-hole golf course. And loaner frisbees are available at the park office.
Don't forget to pick up after yourself and do not leave garbage behind.
Play Tennis
Residents can enjoy a tennis match at John H. Downing Park, in close proximity to F.D.R. Park. Courts are lit and open until 10 p.m weather permitting.
Ride Your Bike
You can enjoy a scenic bike ride or walk through the town. Five miles of the 22-mile North County Trailway bike and pedestrian path passes through Yorktown. The Trailway enters town along Route 100, crosses the New Croton Reservoir and then Route 118. It continues along Route 118 north into the center of Yorktown Heights with two parking areas along Underhill Avenue near Town Hall. Continuing through Railroad Park, the Trailway turns northeast and leaves town at the Trailway crossing with Route 202. A detailed map of the Trailway showing all access and parking areas is available from the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.
