Obituary: Edward Robert Sorken, 85, Formerly Of Yorktown
The former Yorktown Heights resident spent 40 years working for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.

Edward Robert Sorken, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away on March 15, 2023, at the age of 85 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on January 9, 1938, he was the only child of Sylvia and Julius Sorken.
Ed married Fran Rodkin in 1964. The couple first lived in Ossining, NY, then moved to Yorktown Heights, NY, where they raised their two children Elizabeth (Beth) and Jonathan (Jon).

Ed spent 40 years in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns school district where he was an elementary school teacher at John Paulding Elementary School and later became principal at John Paulding.
After the untimely death of his wife Fran in 1998, Ed retired in 1999 and as a member Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, he became a leader of the docent group, providing tours for adults and children with special needs. During this time, Ed also led tours for school groups and adults at the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY.

In 2004, Ed married Sharon Lynn Moskow in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After living in Yorktown Heights for almost a decade, the couple moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In Santa Fe, Ed furthered his interest in the arts, becoming a docent at the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and SITE Santa Fe. Ed and Sharon attended concerts, art exhibitions and summer performances at the Santa Fe Opera. During this time Ed also volunteered at the Aspen Community School’s 4th grade reading program and 1st grade classroom, working with students in language and creative arts.
Ed lived in Santa Fe for 11 years, often working in his flower garden, which was known for his extensive collection of dahlias.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife Sharon, his loving children Elizabeth Anne Sorken Troyano and Jonathan Lee Sorken and his grandchildren Alexander and Anna.
The family has planned a private memorial service and has designated Scott’s House, a community hospice and respite house in Santa Fe, where Ed passed peacefully, as a charity for memorial donations.
