Polls Are Closed In Yorktown, Somers; Results For District 4 Coming In

YORKTOWN, NY — Voters in Yorktown, Somers and New Castle went to the polls to cho0se the person who will represent them in the Westchester County Board of Legislators in District 4.

Incumbent Democrat Vedat Gashi was challenged by Republican challenger Dan Branda.

Gashi, 45, of Yorktown Heights, is currently chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislator and has served as legislator for District 4 since 2019. He previously was chief legal advisor to Kosovo’s Ministry of Local Government and later for the prime minister of Kosovo. He interned for Rep. Lee Hamilton in the House Committee on Foreign Relations and Sonia Sotomayor in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

He said his campaign was focused on the issues the community cares about and how Westchester can improve and move forward.

Branda, 44, of Somers, runs his own digital marketing company and counts as his political experience five years with County Executive Rob Astorino and three years with state Senator Greg Ball.

He said he ran for office because elected officials in Westchester are concerned with national political agendas and there is a need to move beyond politics and focus on the shared goals of the community by recognizing the values held in common.

Westchester County’s District 4 is comprised of Yorktown, Somers and New Castle.
