Rain, Thunderstorms To Start Hudson Valley's Workweek

Temperatures, after Monday, will be above normal, meteorologists said.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Keep the rain gear handy during the first part of the work week in the Hudson Valley.

Rain is in the forecast up and down the valley through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and possible a thunderstorm are possible Monday morning, after which there is a chance of showers and t-storms in the afternoon.

This doesn’t mean the first half of the week is a washout, according to Hudson Valley Weather.

“Periods of rain and showers … will be separated by overcast skies and above normal temperatures,” Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said on Facebook.

“Over this period, anywhere from 0.30-0.60” of rain is likely with the lower amounts in your typical down slope locations,” they said.

After highs Monday in the upper 50s to lower 60s, temperatures will rise Tuesday and Wednesday, getting close to 70.

Here is the forecast for northern Westchester for the workweek:

  • Monday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 2pm, then a chance of showers after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 59. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Monday Night: A chance of showers before midnight, then patchy drizzle with a chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 60 by 5am. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Tuesday: Patchy drizzle with a chance of showers before 9am, then a chance of showers after 9am. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Tuesday Night: Showers likely, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. East wind 3 to 5 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 53.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44.
  • Friday:Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 41.
