Scam Victim Withdrew $30K, But Then Got Suspicious: Police

A Brooklyn man was arrested after Yorktown police conducted an undercover operation and caught him during a handoff of cash, cops said.

YORKTOWN, NY — The Yorktown Police Department says that a 27-year-old Brooklyn resident was arrested for grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after a suspicious incident.

On Friday, around 1:13 p.m., Yorktown police began an investigation into a possible larceny after a victim was told to withdraw $30,000.00 in cash for a "fraudulent purpose" and hand it off to the Brooklyn resident, police said.

After the victim withdrew the cash, they became suspicious and reported the incident to Yorktown police. Officers then conducted an undercover investigation during which the Brooklyn resident took the cash from the victim, officials said.

Mykyta Lebedyev was then arrested and taken to Yorktown Police Department headquarters for processing. He was charged with felony third-degree grand larceny, and felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Lebedyev was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to the Yorktown Justice Court on May 13.
