Severe Thunderstorms, Hail Possible In Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A strong cold front will move through the Hudson Valley Thursday bringing the possibility of severe thunderstorms and hail.

The National Weather Service issued hazardous weather outlooks for much of the Hudson Valley.

For Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties, the outlook calls for showers and thunderstorms continuing through the morning.

The three counties could see thunderstorms that become severe, with isolated damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Additionally, there could be heavy rainfall in short periods of time, leading to minor flooding for low-lying and poor drainage areas.

For the rest of the Hudson Valley — Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties — the strong cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms.

There could be an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with damaging winds.

What the cold front will leave behind are temperatures more suited to fall, which officially begins at 9:04 p.m. Thursday.

Overnight lows in northern Westchester County are forecast to be in the mid-40s with Friday's high in the low 60s.
