Volunteers will help assemble the backpacks at the Sharing Shelf's Port Chester warehouse during the month of August. The backpacks and supplies are critical to the academic success of poor and low-income children, organizers said, and will allow them to return to school prepared.

Town of Somers residents may bring new backpacks to the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, and one of the town's representatives will deliver them to the Sharing Shelf.
