Stephen Manfredi Surrenders, Manhunt is Over

A 37-year-old Yorktown resident turns himself in to county police after he was wanted for violation of probation.

A felon who caused French Hill Elementary School lockout when hostage negotiators and a Special Response Team surrounded his house on Baldwin Road early Wednesday morning has turned himself in.

Stephen Manfredi, 37, of Yorktown, surrendered to members of the Department of Probation and the County Police Warrant-Fugitive Unit on Thursday at around 11:30 a.m. Department of Probation had made contact with Manfredi via cell phone and were trying to get him to surrender, county police spokesperson Kieran O'Leary said.

The manhunt began when town police received a call at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday to help county probation officers arrest the suspect for a violation of probation on a prior felony DWI conviction. Investigators said they heard movement inside and believed the man had barricaded himself in the house.
