Yorktown Lions’ Turkey Challenge: 400 Turkeys for 2025
The Yorktown Lions have been soliciting supermarket donations for their annual “Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.” The Lions now need to supplement that number with turkey donations from local residents. The Lions’ goal is to surpass last year’s total of 300 turkeys. However, they need the community’s help to achieve that goal of 400 turkeys.
A few local supermarkets are providing free turkeys to those shoppers who spent over a certain amount. Check their weekly ads. The Lions would like you to consider donating those free turkeys to our annual drive. The Lions are also accepting hams and turkey breasts.

The Yorktown Lions would like to thank these local stores for supporting their annual turkey drive: Shoprite (Mohegan Lake), Uncle G’s, Acme (Triangle store), DeCicco’s (Jefferson Valley), Trader Joe’s, and BJ’s. Please thank their managers for supporting the Yorktown Lions.
To make the collection easier, the Lions have arranged four turkey drop off days. The first will be on Sunday, November 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM by the Lakeland Administration Building in Shrub Oak. Look for the Lions cooking hot dogs for the Veterans’ Day parade participants. The second turkey drop off day is Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Uncle G’s from 3 to 6:30, and the third location is Triangle’s Acme on Friday, Nov. 21 from 3:00 to 6:30. The final drop off site is at the town’s gazebo on Veterans’ Road on Monday, Nov. 24 from 10:00 to 2:00. Donors will receive a donation acknowledgement that may be used for tax purposes.

The Yorktown Lions will deliver the turkeys to the Mildred Strang Middle School, First Presbyterian Church on Route 202, My Brother Vinny (veterans’ support group), Yorktown Community Help, and to St. Mary’s Church on Route 6. Teams of volunteers will then organize turkey baskets – with all the trimmings. The turkey baskets will then be distributed to local families.
If you are not able to donate a turkey, ham, or turkey breast, you may make a monetary donation at one of the four drop off sites or at the Yorktown Lions website – www.yorktownlions.com
