YORKTOWN, NY — Patriot Skate Park will close Monday for its first renovation in 15 years.

Yorktown town officials said the rehabilitation is expected to last through the end of September.

Supervisor Matt Slater said this is the latest park to receive upgrades under the town's plan to enhance recreational safety and enjoyment for young people.

"This work will improve the park's safety and preserve this beloved destination for skaters of all levels," he said.

Repairs at the stake park will unfold in three phases, according to the Parks and Recreation Department.

The first phase will address the ramps farthest from Town Hall. They will be disassembled, stripped and fitted with a new composite sheet. Some of the ramps will receive new internal support layers, and all the structures' metal parts will be repainted and sealed.

Parks Superintendent James Martorano Jr. said he is confident of the deadline for the renovation.

"We will have a better sense of an exact reopening date in mid-September," he said, "when we hope to announce a park-improvement ribbon cutting."
