Yorktown Scales Back Solar Array At Granite Knolls Complex
The town also OK'd free electric car charging stations at Jefferson County Mall.

YORKTOWN, NY — A scaled down proposal for a solar panel array in the parking lot of the Granite Knolls Sports Complex and additional electric vehicle charging stations at the Jefferson Valley mall were approved Tuesday by the Yorktown Town Board.
The new charging stations at the mall will be free to the public, and they will be supported by advertising displayed on screens mounted to the charging stations.
The solar panels at Granite Knolls will be mounted on carports over the park's parking lot.

Originally, the proposal for solar panels by HESP Solar included additional ground-mounted solar panels and solar-power batteries. Those were eliminated from the reduced site plan application approved by the Planning Board Sept. 12.
Town Supervisor Matt Slater said providing new and affordable electric vehicle charging stations has been a focus of the Town Board.

He said the Granite Knolls project is expected to begin construction in November and be completed before the spring sports season starts.
"This project will not only provide clean renewable energy to the grid," Slater said, "but it will allow for needed enhancements of Granite Knolls and other parks in the future that taxpayers will not be asked to pay for."
