Yorktown Schools To Vote On Capital Bond Projects
There is one more information session before the polls open on Tuesday.

YORKTOWN, NY — Voters in the Yorktown school district will be going to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on a capital bond project that could provide additional space and resources to all schools.
The district will hold one more information session on the propositions at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Mildred E. Strang Middle School cafeteria.
According to information on the district’s website, the vote is comprised of two propositions.

The first includes six new classrooms, dedicated special education and small group instruction space and main entrance security upgrades at Brookside, Mohansic and Crompond elementary schools; renovations to several classrooms and old amphitheater, upgrades to the main lobby and cafeteria, security upgrades and more at Mildred E. Strang Middle School and renovations to the music wing, art classrooms, robotics lab and science research room, a new synthetic turf baseball and multi-purpose field and more at Yorktown High School.
Proposition 1 will cost a little less than $46 million and will have no additional tax impact, according to Superintendent Ron Hattar. The bond would replace existing debt from a previous capital project and, therefore, ensures no additional taxpayer burden.

Plus, the second proposition can only be passed if the first proposition is approved by voters.
Proposition 2 consists of the renovation of Mohansic Elementary School’s cafeteria and adjacent areas, the installation of a generator at the high school and an additional multi-purpose synthetic turf field, concessions and restrooms, a scoreboard and more on the YHS/MESMS campus.
The second proposition will cost almost $11 million. The additional impact on residential taxes would be about $78 per year — or $6.50 per month — for a home at the town’s average assessed value.
More information about the propositions can be found on the district’s Capital Bond Project website.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the French Hill School Library.
