Yorktown Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

YORKTOWN, NY — Eight Yorktown High School student-athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday, Nov. 14 to play sports at Division I and Division II colleges next year. The students will play lacrosse, softball and baseball at Post University, University of Tampa, Marist College, Manhattan College, University of Massachusetts, St. Anselm College and University of Albany.

“Students don’t get to this point without dedicating a lot of time and effort to the sport they play,” said Yorktown Athletic Director Robert Barrett, adding that he hoped all of the athletes had thanked their parents for the countless hours they had spent driving them to practices and cheering them on at games.

Nick Gibson, who will play lacrosse for University of Tampa, said he glad he was “finally able to sign with Tampa. It is a good school with good academics, strong athletics and a beautiful campus.” He praised the teachers and coaches at Yorktown High School for “preparing me by pushing me in the classroom and on the field to exceed limits I didn’t think I could pass.”

Jenna McPherson, who will play lacrosse at Manhattan College, said she was excited for herself and her fellow student-athletes. “It is a big step in my life … but the coaches here prepared and trained me so well, I have never been so ready,” she said.

The students gathered with their families and coaches in the high school library for photos and congratulations. The future college athletes are:

• Shane Dahlke, Marist College, Men’s Lacrosse, DI
• Jenna McPherson, Manhattan College, Women’s Lacrosse, DI

• Brendan Williams, University of Massachusetts, Men’s Lacrosse, DI
• Joseph Sgobbo, St. Anselm College, Baseball, DII
• Anthony Fusco, University of Albany, Baseball, DI
