1 Killed In Shooting Outside North Carolina Courthouse: Police

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a shooting outside Craven County Courthouse in New Bern on Tuesday.

NEW BERN, NC — A man was killed and another injured in a shooting outside Craven County Courthouse in New Bern, North Carolina, on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Jordan Andre McDaniels, 23, died from injuries sustained in the shooting, which occurred at 10:50 a.m. Jaheem Dashawn McDaniels, 21, was taken to Vidant Medical Center at East Carolina University in Greenville and is still in critical condition, New Bern police said. Both victims are from Bayboro.

Police arrested 19-year-old Dakota Wright of Vanceboro in connection with the shooting. Wright is being charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, according to police.

The shooting was not random, as the suspect and victims knew each other, police said.

Wright was taken to Craven County Jail without bond, and a court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Shortly after the shooting, police found both victims with gunshot wounds on Broad Street outside the courthouse. Both victims were initially taken to EastCarolina Medical Center in New Bern, according to authorities. Wright fled the area of the shooting.
