2 Brothers Killed After Car Crashes Into NC Hardee's: Police

A car crashed into a Hardee's restaurant in Wilson on Sunday morning, killing two brothers who were eating breakfast.

WILSON, NC — Two brothers were killed Sunday when an SUV crashed into a fast-food restaurant in North Carolina, according to police.

Around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Jesse Lawrence, 78, crashed a Lincoln Aviator into a Hardee's located at 2313 Forest Hills Road in Wilson, North Carolina, located 40 miles east of Raleigh, police said.

Christopher and Clay Ruffin were struck while eating breakfast at the restaurant when the SUV crashed into the building. Christopher, a 58-year-old man from Wilson, died at the restaurant. Clay, 62, was taken to East Carolina University Health Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, according to the Wilson Police Department.

Lawrence, who also is from Wilson, was taken to the Wilson Medical Center and has since been released. A third victim was examined by medical personnel but did not go to a hospital, according to police.

After a preliminary investigation, authorities do not believe the crash was caused by a medical issue or impairment. The Wilson Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash.
