North Carolina Rapper Releases Second Single from Upcoming Album
PrettiboiRoq returns with powerfully dark single, "Ann N Andyy"

PrettiboiRoq, the out rapper celebrated for his sharp lyricism and unapologetic voice, is back with a powerful new single, “Ann N Andyy,” released yesterday. The song is the second single from his forthcoming album, Prince of the South, slated for a 2025 release, and it dives deep into personal conflict and creative frustration, exploring themes of betrayal, resilience, and transformation. With its raw emotion and clever wordplay, the track marks a pivotal moment in PrettiboiRoq’s musical journey, showcasing a darker side of his artistry.
The inspiration for “Ann N Andyy” stems from a challenging experience during the creation of PrettiboiRoq’s upcoming album. He was collaborating on a project with close friends and fellow artists when disagreements about creative control led to an abrupt fallout. PrettiboiRoq found himself left with a project he couldn’t release and a significant financial investment wasted. But instead of letting the setback defeat him, he transformed the pain into music. The grievances his former collaborators aired during the fallout became the foundation of the lyrics for “Ann N Andyy,” turning a personal conflict into a creative triumph.
“The entire project was funded by me,” PrettiboiRoq explains. “So, I took a lot of inspiration from this massive email where they aired all their grievances and incorporated it into the bars and wordplay throughout the track.” The song serves as a cathartic release, allowing the rapper to process the betrayal through his music rather than through confrontation.

Musically, “Ann N Andyy” marks a return to a more aggressive, classic hip-hop style for PrettiboiRoq. The production is intentionally minimalistic, putting the spotlight on the lyrics and the emotional weight they carry. “I wanted to keep it simple as far as production goes and really hyper-focus on the lyricism,” he says. The track's sound contrasts sharply with some of his more recent singles, such as the pop-infused “In My Ride,” offering fans a glimpse of his versatility as an artist.
The title, “Ann N Andyy,” is a clever play on the iconic Ann and Andy dolls, known for their raggedy appearance. PrettiboiRoq, who has long embraced a polished “Ken Doll” persona, uses the title as a metaphor for those who wronged him. In the song, he refers to them as “raggedy,” calling out their betrayal and presenting himself as the one who emerged stronger. The track serves as a direct response to their actions, delivered not through an email or private conversation but through the power of his music.

The accompanying music video for “Ann N Andyy,” directed by Nick Eastman and Kat Glaudini, vividly captures the song's intensity. In one of the most striking scenes, PrettiboiRoq is seen lying in a morgue with a knife in his back, a powerful symbol of the betrayal he endured. Later in the video, he is injected with a syringe labeled “Ann N Andyy,” signifying a rebirth after the figurative death of his old self. The video is filled with symbolic imagery and Easter eggs that offer clues to the real-life events that inspired the song.
Despite the dark themes of the video, PrettiboiRoq and his team managed to inject some humor into the behind-the-scenes process. At one point during filming, PrettiboiRoq wore white-out contacts to achieve a drugged look, but the contacts temporarily blinded him. “I was in a legit straight jacket, couldn’t see or move, and had to be guided around by the team. It was hilarious… for everyone else!” he laughs.
Through “Ann N Andyy,” PrettiboiRoq hopes to remind fans of his lyrical prowess and versatility. “I’m always a rapper first,” he says. “This track is a warning—be careful of the bridges you burn.” The song’s raw emotion, combined with its clever wordplay, makes it a standout moment in his discography, offering fans a deeper glimpse into his personal and artistic evolution.
As he looks ahead to the release of Prince of the South in 2025, PrettiboiRoq promises more music and teasers leading up to the album drop. Fans can expect to hear even more of his signature style as he continues to push boundaries and explore new creative directions.
“Ann N Andyy” is now available on all streaming platforms, and fans can stay updated on PrettiboiRoq’s latest releases and announcements by following him on social media.
