Here are the top three stories in Asheville today:
- Asheville police released surveillance video footage of a vehicle that might have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run. On Mar. 1, James Shearon, 28, was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle and on Mar. 8, he died from his injuries. Please contact APD with information about the vehicle or the crash. - Oshua Archie Peak pled guilty to three counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property and three counts of interfering with a state's witness in connection to a June 2021 south Asheville neighborhood shooting. According to the Asheville Police Department, no one was injured during Peak's three shootings in the Shiloh community of Asheville. (WLOS)
- The City of Asheville ranked No. 3 on the Southern Living’s 2023 "Best Cities" List! Asheville's Chimney Rock State Park also made No. 8 on the "The Best State Parks In Every Southern State" list, and Asheville's Highland Brewing Company Asheville brewery claimed the title of the best brewery in North Carolina. - The Asheville Fire Department announced that crews have located the missing 11-year-old and the boy is now safe! The boy had gone missing in the area of Airport Road on Mar. 8, and officials asked the public to call 911 if he is seen. (WTFF 4)
- The Asheville City Council approved a $115,000 contract for a Missing Middle Housing study. Opticos Design, Inc., and their subcontractor Cascadia Partners, will examine Asheville’s zoning standards, and housing-related policy documents to discover why there is not housing diversity. (Mountain Xpress)
